A memoir by Teresa Angela McCann
Plucked From the Fire
From Darkness to Light: A Journey of Hope and Miraculous Deliverance
Can a heart crushed by abuse, rejection, shame, and loss ever learn to hope again?
Teresa Angela McCann’s deeply personal memoir follows a life shaped by trauma toward faith, purpose, peace, and the determination to keep taking the next right step.
The story
A childhood shaped by fear. A life still capable of hope.
In Plucked From the Fire, Teresa Angela McCann shares the deeply personal story of her journey from a childhood shaped by neglect, alcoholism, violence, and sexual abuse toward a life grounded in faith, purpose, and peace.
Growing up in the mountains of Virginia, Teresa learned to escape into daydreams, nature, and creativity while living inside a home where she rarely felt safe or loved. As the pain intensified, she ran away, entered foster care, and eventually found herself caught in self-destructive choices and overwhelming despair.
The beginning of change
Faith opened a door. Healing still required a journey.
At sixteen, Teresa experienced what she describes as the beginning of God’s miraculous intervention in her life. Through the kindness of a mentor, the power of sacred music, and a growing relationship with God, she began moving out of darkness. Her faith led her to Hobe Sound Bible Academy and Bible College, but salvation did not instantly erase the wounds of her past.
Teresa writes honestly about the shame, perfectionism, grief, fear of loss, passivity, and vulnerability that followed her into adulthood. She also recounts the difficult work of forgiveness, therapy, prayer, reconnecting with her inner child, and finding expression through music, songwriting, art, and nature.
Faith was a beginning and a foundation—not an instant cure.
More than a survival story
Not only a story about what Teresa survived.
Plucked From the Fire is a testimony to what suffering can become when it is met with faith, courage, and the determination to keep taking the next right step.
- Survival
- The truth of what happened is not softened or erased.
- Faith
- Hope begins to take root without denying pain.
- Forgiveness
- Forgiveness is explored as difficult, gradual work—not as permission for abuse.
- Expression
- Music, writing, art, and nature become ways of giving shape to experience.
For the reader
Your past may have wounded you, but it does not have to determine the final meaning of your life.
For readers who have endured childhood trauma, family dysfunction, spiritual struggle, or profound loss, Teresa’s memoir offers companionship rather than a simple answer. It makes room for the reality that recovery can be uneven, faith can coexist with questions, and hope can return gradually.
Teresa’s book was published by The Empowering Story under the guidance of Jean Dorff and its specialized Narrative Transformation Coaching Program.
